NEW BEGINNINGS
HNZLR was entrusted by Vita Motus and Do Lab to serve as production designer for the inaugural Woogie Weekend- a short-lived but beloved Do Lab festival devoted to house music. This marked HNZLR’s very first professional commission, a formative initiation into the world of festival design and the beginning of a life-changing creative relationship with the Do Lab / Vita Motus community.
RISING TO THE CHALLENGE
HNZLR presented a full deck of sculptural stage proposals, each blending architectural precision with expressive form. The selected design drew from the truncated octahedron, forming a modular exoskeletal frame of offset wooden members wrapped in vivid striated fabric, a nod to the iconic Do Lab palette.
HNZLR produced laser-cut and hand-folded paper maquettes, using them as lighting and joinery studies. The chosen form balanced spectacle with simplicity. Its self-similar geometry allowed a streamlined build process, relying on a manageable kit of parts and an intuitive assembly logic.
FABRICATION AND BUILD
The structure was joined via custom triangular steel brackets, designed for quick installation and visual cohesion. HNZLR prepared detailed drawing sets and fabrication files for laser-cutting, welding, and sewing, working closely with vendors to ensure smooth production. With the Vita Motus team in Las Vegas for EDC, HNZLR oversaw the full on-site build at Silverado—hauling beams, impact-drilling brackets, operating lifts, and hand-tying fabric on location.
The finished structure became emblematic of Woogie Weekend- a stage remembered for its geometric intimacy and communal spirit. Guests picnicked within the shaded crowd installations, framed by crisp wooden volumes and portals to open sky. The lighting fixtures naturally traced the skeleton’s edges, creating a kinetic spectacle of structure and light—no video screens necessary.

[STEEL CROWD LANTERNS]
In an effort to extend the artwork as far as bandwidth and budget would allow, HNZLR developed a series of lantern seating to place in the crowd. This addition gained approval after HNZLR presented a laser-cut paper model, hand-assembled with specialty Japanese double-sided table.
The paper mockup is still assembled and holding to this day. The resulting metal sculptures were welded on site. With personal experience in MIG, TIG, and arc welding, HNZLR oversaw and advised on the tack points, bead placement, grinding, and polishing. They withstood the crowds standing upon them, and went on to become accent pieces in the Do Lab studio space where they still exist today.
